Hi, I’m Steven—founder of The Keys to Fitness.
I’ve been overweight or obese for most of my life. At my heaviest, I weighed 299.6 pounds at 6’1″, with around 40% body fat. Seeing that number on the scale hit me hard. I promised myself I’d never cross 300, and that day, I committed to change no matter what.
Over the next two years, I lost 103.9 pounds, dropping to 195.7. Getting under 200 pounds felt like a major milestone, but I still wasn’t satisfied. I looked smaller, but I didn’t look or feel the way I had imagined. I was still soft and lacked muscle.
So I shifted gears and started training to build muscle. I’ve since added about 15–20 pounds of lean mass. I also gained back some fat, bringing me to around 23–24% body fat today. I’m not shredded or jacked like the fitness influencers you see online, but I’m healthier. My bloodwork is solid. I’ve come a long way, and I’m still improving.
Along the way, I realized just how confusing the world of health and fitness can be. It’s filled with conflicting advice, extreme camps, and people arguing like it’s politics. That mindset frustrated me. I believe the truth often lies somewhere in the middle, and that’s the approach I bring to this site.
I started The Keys to Fitness to cut through the noise and make fitness simple. Most of the advice I found online was geared toward underweight people trying to bulk up. As someone who spent his life overweight, that wasn’t what I needed. So I built the resource I wish I had when I started, focused on real-world strategies, long-term health, and making fitness part of everyday life.
I’m still learning. I don’t have all the answers. But I’m here to share what’s worked, what hasn’t, and how to find what fits you.
If you’re interested in the certifications and education that support what I teach, you can view my credentials here. I keep that page updated as I continue learning and growing.
Thanks for being here. I hope you’ll join me on the journey to discover The Keys to Fitness.
